Olsa

The town of Olsa sits on Crown Lands immediately east of the Fuldelf Ridge and the Duchy of Haibach. The town, and its soldiery, control the eastern edge of the Graubruke. The Gaubruke is the the easiest passage over the Fuldelf Ridge. The town stops anyone from using the road unless they pay the toll.

The town is surrounded by a wooden palisade over nine feet (9') tall with flanking towers on either side of the road, plus a single wide tower on the eastern wall. There are two common lands to the north and south of the town where caravans can await weather good enough to make the passage. Should the passage become impassable or the its master wary, there are many merchants in town willing to purchase goods. Most of the caravans simply sell and buy their goods from the merchants of Olsa.

Most of those in the town work to support the trade caravans that frequently arrive. Woodworkers to fix wagons, ostlers for horses, taverns and inns to rest and eat, and brothels catering to any desire. A large sum of wealth flows through this town and directly into the Crown Purse. Although the Duke of Haibach is required to defend the town, this is Crown lands and the only coin the Duke gets from the town regards his soldiers he posts.

Stonearm Clan

The Stonearm Clan has a walled building north of the town. Manned by hard-eyed soldiers and merchants they buy and sell goods from the caravans. In addition, they sell passage for the route under the mountains. It goes deep in several places, making it difficult for those prone to panic. Even in the deepest snows this passage remains open.

The clan pays a very small sum to the crown for the land its buildings and walls sit upon. This has infuriated many of the merchants who complain they pay far more in Crown taxes.
