Morning Calm

Once the second largest of the jundari aeries on Miranda it has been abandoned for hundreds of years. Located along the Bahir Ridge of the Abjurer Mountains the statues, nests, and meeting circles are still there; although have long since fell into disrepair and ruin.

The jundari of Morning Calm referred to themselves in the manner of their original ancestors. This method used the location of the jundari's nest along with the name they have been given or taken for themselves. As an example a jundari calling himself Windseeker came from this aerie the proper greeting would be Windseeker of Morning Calm or Windseeker of the Sun. Among those within the aerie or very close friends he would be identified by the specific location of his nest (i.e. Windseeker of Grayshard).

Founding

In 2384 AM, jundari by the hundreds took to the winds and left their aeries. They were not stopped by their elders as a “calling” by Aesir was not unknown. What made this one different was the large number of jundari she was calling. In 2392 AM these jundari landed among the volcanoes and snow-capped peaks of the Bahir Ridge. Over several hundred years not only did more jundari arrives, but those here were blessed by Aesir with many more children including multiple births (extremely rare among the jundari).

By 565 AE there were thousands of jundari that lived in the aerie.

Shadarri

As the bitter colds winds blew the jundari of Morning Calm where called by Aesir to learn why she summoned them here. Shadarri, the most powerful Dark Vampire, dwells beneath this mountain was stirring and would awaken soon. The last time Shadarri awoke it was the dwarves of Blackfist Hold that minded too deep - this time is the humans that were chasing the wealth of this mountain. The jundari prepared for war.

Shadarri began to awaken when the first heavy snows of 573 AE hit the ridge and the jundari were ready. For over one-hundred and twenty (120) years the jundari bled and died to keep Shadarri from freeing itself from the prison of this mountain. The mountains were were littered by the dead bodies of the jundari who gave everything to stop Shadarri. Legends say that rain or snow fell every day a jundari fell in battle as Aesir was weeping over what she required of her children.

By 716 AE Shadarri had been silent for over a decade, but the cost to the jundari were terrible. The aerie that once held thousands had been reduced to just over a hundred. None that survived were spared the devastating injuries of war.

Whitecap War

With the battle won, the jundari worked to rebuild their lives and the aerie, but newcomers found the empty nests inviting as well. A large number of rathari lived in the mountains and were more than willing to move into the empty nests. The rathari were not well suited for the higher mountain clime, but the jundari nests were well-constructed and provided shelter against the elements.

The jundari, still grieving over their dead, resented the intrusion by outsiders and in began driving them out. The rathari were no deterred and resisted, which grew from a few quick skirmishes into a war. By 728 AE the rathari were driven back into the lowlands, but now less than a score of jundari remained.

Isolation

For nearly one thousand (1000) years the jundari lived in the nearly empty aerie as caretakers of a graveyard. Time and again Aesir sent her children favorable winds, but those that remained refused to leave. So many had died upon these mountains that the spirits of the air refused to leave and they vowed to care for them. Over time their numbers increased through both birth and immigration until nearly a thousand jundari lived in the aerie.

In 1631 AE the Turanians landed upon the eastern shore of Aquanius, driving off the Shoag that lived there. In addition to many settlements they built a thriving port town.

Mercantile

The Turanians, upon finding out about Morning Calm, came into the mountains for trade not conquest. The jundari had little material wealth to trade, but instead many of them agreed to work for the Turanians. They earned goods in kind acting as scouts for Turanian merchants. Some of these goods they traded to many of the people that lived in the lowlands. The jundari of Morning Calm prospered for the first time in their history.

White Plague

In 1979 AE the first signs of the plague began to show among the oldest jundari. They got white rings along their body and their feathers began to fall off their wings. Stomach sickness, weakness, and hallucinations was followed by death. The shaman of the aerie blamed the plague on those jundari who worked closely with the humans and turned their backs upon the spirits of the air that still wandered the mountains. The jundari turned against each other even going as far as burning their own kind in order to free their spirit.

By 43 AH the last jundari died and none would ever return fearing either plague or madness.

Ruin

In the years several people have ventured into the ruin in search of the wealth the jundari amassed, by all accounts the plague is still active and people that enter the ruin die with two weeks.

The cone volcano that dominates the Bahir Ridge has been dormant for thousands of years, but the maze of vents and tunnels it left behind riddle the rocks under the ridgeline. Many of the nests for individual jundari were built at the mouth of these lava tubes.

When the jundari lived here each family was responsible for themselves. The shaman who received visions from Aesir were revered, but they did not constitute a government or ruling body. Each jundari stood as equals within the community.

Military

This extends to the military. All jundari are expected to learn how to defend themselves, their nest, and the aerie if necessary. If the aerie was threatened then all were expected to defend it.

Except for a very brief period only the jundari have ever lived here.

During the Mercantile Period the jundari engaged in trade with the Turanians and the lowland villages; otherwise the community economy was more barter and commune-based.

Religion

The jundari of Morning Calm were followers of Aesir, goddess of the winds who created them. It was she who sent them here so that the powerful Shadarri would forever remain chained below the mountains.

Magic

The spirit of the jundari are spirits of the air. This gives the jundari a natural ability to sense, read, and use the air for their own benefit.
