Elfenwald

The Elfenwald, or Elves' Wood in Dakarian, is a vast stretch of forest that stretches across the lower third of the Kingdom of Dakar between the Aland River and the western coast. This land was seceded to Dakar by the elves of Ellendar in exchange for their help in fighting the Xianese.

Throughout the Elfenwald are great wooden statues carved from a single tree. The wood is as hard as stone and the has resisted the wear from either elements or time. The statues are too abstract to tell who they are supposed to depict, but legend says that they were a people that lived in these woods before the elves. This ancient people were cursed by their gods and turned to stone. The Vormund do not sprout leaves in the spring and no moss or vine grows on them. Even the animals refuse to make their nests in or on the trees. They stand alone surrounded by the forest.

In several places of the Elfenwald squat stone rings can be found. The rings are made of a single stone and rise no more than three feet from the earth. Scholars who have found and examined the rings have declared them evidence of a race of dragonkin that legends say lived in these woods. These dragonkin walked on two legs and stood over fifteen feet high. They breathed fire and the stone of the world trembled with their passing. The purpose of the rings is unknown, but it is known that powerful magic was used to created these rings.
