Blackyard Prison

This prison of iron-reinforced stone was constructed to hold dangerous magicians prisoner. While the vast majority of the criminals in Bornheim are kept in the various Constabulary Houses across the city. None of these are well-suited to contained those who can summon the forces of magic, gods, or devils. The mortar used is a compound of iron developed by the dwarves for use in their own clanholds. Iron rods are driven into the stones comprising both the prison and the wall - this gives the building a very unnerving appearance.

The current warden of the prison is Sir Hugo.

In 439 AH a magical fire swept through a neighborhood in Old Town killing hundreds. The wooden houses and shops were reduced to ash, even the ground was left so black and hardened that nothing would grow there. The area lay empty for several years as passersby avoided walking over the land.

In 442 the City Council built a small stone underground prison specifically to house the surviving members of a cult while the awaited execution. Only a small stone building marked the entrance to the lower chambers.

In 444 the small building was demolished and a new two-story stone keep build instead. Cells on the upper level were used for those not awaiting execution, while the horrible rumors of what awaited below continued to grow.

In 455 a nine foot stone wall was constructed around the prison with a single gatehouse providing the only access.
