====== Karina ====== **Treasure Hunter cursed to have no fear** Many would consider Karina to not only be unhinged, but downright deranged. She seemingly has a very different view of the world from those around her. Things like ownership, history, and the reality of what just happened carries no weight with her - she is solidly grounded in the world as she perceives it in the moment. This strange, and rather bizarre, outlook comes from being cursed when she was very little. The imaginative world of a child heavily influences her actions. It must truly be said the [[lore:gods]] protect fools as she has lived a very unique life. ===== Statistics ===== * **Moniker:** Karina the Bold * **Occupation:** Treasure Hunter * **Ethnicity** [[creatures:Human]], [[orgs:dakarians]] * **Family:** * Parents: Unknown * Born: 431 AH, Location unknown * Spouse: None * Issue: None * **Religion:** No affiliation ===== History ===== Karina was very bold, even as a child. As she got older her travels from her village took her deeper and deeper into the nearby woods. Most believed the woods were haunted, but to Karina they were the heart of adventure and danger. She would always come back with some nearly unbelievable tale or some "lost treasure." While a few would mock her tales she was so skilled at spinning a nearly believable story that it typically left her listeners wondering if it was all true. At age 11 she was now a young woman and expected to act the part - not that she actually remembers her childhood before this point. But as most girls do around that age she must have done the same. She does remember meeting a man in the woods - his name was Rothlar and he was a powerful Knight of the Realm. Instead of a horse he rode on the back of a white unicorn with fantastical dragon wings. His sword blazed in his hands with the radiance of the sun, while his cloak was crimson red. She left her village that day for an lifetime of adventure. Rothlar was a magician that was on the run from the [[orgs:temple_of_light]]. He was hiding in the woods when Karina discovered him. Fearing that he girl would tell her parents he put a powerful curse on her that gave her the outlook, wonder, and fearlessness of a child. This did not hamper her intelligence , but most people would agree she lacks common sense. Strangely enough it enhanced her natural powers of persuasion giving her an almost mystical ability to drag people into her world-view for at least a short time. ==== Praetis Danos ==== She met a dwarf named [[people:Leescrag Stonehefter]] and his elven associate [[people:Elrin Quicksilver]]. She had some things to sell and when Leescrag listened to a story about some treasure map she discovered he invited her to join his Irillian Trading Company for a far smaller fee that he charged anyone else. Karina was glad she got a discount. Karina dragged Leescrag and Elrin from the [[atlas:Caragan Sea]] to the [[atlas:Anor Mountains]]. Lost cities, ancient temples, and artifact from the [[lore:Age of the Ancients]]. Leescrag filled his wagon and his coffers, but something just never really felt right about things. Leescrag was not an adventurous sort and Elrin was far too quiet. Neither of them really enjoyed exploring and finding the unexplored, so increasing Karina became less enthused with her partners. the colors ran out of her world. ==== Freebooter ==== The trading company had been settled in Celinus forever as Leescrag was selling what they had uncovered. Karina had been wandering through the city as the thought of watching Leescrag haggle over ever bit was as boring as the last time he did it. The gods be praised as she turned around - adventure found her. She discovered that a previously hidden cult had settled in the city's dockside district. The worshiped some strange worm-like god declaring their obedience in some strange chant-like language. She discovered them when she came across a wagon loaded with their idols and books, thankfully nobody was guarding the wagon. Although the cultists chased her whomever loaded the wagon also hitched two fine horses. Not being trained to pull a wagon these large stallions pulled frantically against the burden. Karina meant to warn the guard, but the stallions would not be stopped as she careened out the eastern gate. She was sure one of the queen's guard would have helped her, but the cultists were rioting and parts of the docks were burning. Like most of her treasures the wagon was soon lost, stolen, traded - or something else like that, but that is unimportant to the story. What is important is that she uncovered a plot by a dark wizard and some zombie-elves to attack the town of [[atlas:Ulrichstein]]. Then there was that ancient order of scholars that live somewhere high along the [[atlas:Fuldelf Ridge]]. ===== Appearance ===== Karina is a women bold not only in fashion but in every aspect of her life. She wears her dark brown hair long and straight with only the basic attempt made to keep it out of her face so very people can clearly see her hazel eyes and pert nose. Her fair skin does burn occasionally under the sun, but for the most part she is outside enough that it remains tanned so much that anyone can see the many scars that she has picked up over the years. She typically disdains any jewelry, but she adores varied-hued colors for her clothing. She accents a simply tunic and skirt with strips of different colored clothes tied about her arms, waist, and occasionally braided through her hair. Dyed leather satchels, pouches, and wood-framed rucksack. ===== Timeline ===== ^ Year ^ Events ^ | 431 | Born - best guess a to the true date | | 442 | Cursed by Rothlar, an ill-tempered wizard, to suffer no fear | | 452 | Founding member of Irillian Trade Company [[lore:Praetis Danos]] | | 454 | Loses contact with Trading Company in [[atlas:Celinus]] - discovers heretical cult under city | | ::: | Finds wagon containing strange igneous status covered in cultish carvings - escapes dockside riots | | 455 | Discovers lost library of the [[creatures:Sha'rek'ta]] | | ::: | Narrowly escapes burning library | | 457 | Steals [[atlas:Talarakian]] ship - ends up shipwrecked after storm | | ::: | Saves lost god of the Wu people, named //High Champion of the Rock// | | 458 | Lived with the Yoolippe people | | 460 | Discovered the hidden city of [[atlas:Llanier]] in the heart of the [[atlas:Blasted Lands]] | | 461 | Arrives in [[atlas:Ulrichstein]] fleeing from a powerful and evil magician - steals wagon, saves town | | 462 | Finds lost village of Tminir, which is the first test of the Master of [[atlas:Tminir Tower]] | {{tag>human pc gold_diggers}}
