====== Thaumaturgy ======

**Thaumaturgy** is the [[lore:magic]] of working miracles. It is considered a fantastical art that is completely impossible to obtain. The reason is that magic draws its power from the [[lore:Shadow Realms]]. The power of the Shadow Realms starts as simply chaotic and always trends towards complete entropy. It is possible for a [[creatures:sapient]] being to enforce its will over magic and bring order to the chaos, but these bonds are always incomplete and flawed as [[lore:mortals]] themselves are flawed.

In order for magic to remain in an ordered and stable state in the [[lore:mortal plane]] it must be constantly maintained. This is why thaumaturgy is an impossible art. [[creatures:Spirits]] drawn from the Shadow Realms can maintain magical order for a short time if it aligns with them. A mortal can maintain magic even longer, but eventually they will die or become absorbed into the magic.

A true miracle is one that is everlasting - magic can never obtain this goal.
