====== Base Metals ====== The base metals are those that oxidize or corrode relatively easily as well as prove highly reactive. The following are considered base metals: Iron, Nickel, Lead, Zinc, Aluminium, Tin, Tungsten, Molybdenum, Tantalum, Cobolt, Biskuth, Cadmium, Titanium, Zirconium, Antimony, Manganese, Beryllium, Chromium, Germanium, Vanadium, Gallium, Hafnium, Indium, Niobium, Rhenium, and Thallium. ===== Semi-Noble Metals ===== Copper, Cobolt, and Nickel are occasionally considered semi-noble metals. They exhibit many of the properties of both Base Metals and [[lore:Noble Metals]]. Of the three **Cobolt** is the most base material, while **Copper** is consider the most noble, often considered a full noble metal. **Nickel** displays many of the properties of each depending on quantity (more = less noble) and how it is forged. ===== Ferromagnetic ===== The three ferromagnetic metals: Iron, Cobolt, and Nickel are the antithesis of the [[lore:Shadow Realms]]. Many alloys that contain large amounts of these metals disrupt or even disperse magical energies. They also cause harm to creatures of the Shadow Realms. For this reason magicians often use these materials in wards and circles against such creatures. The very touch of these metals can cause such a spirit discomfort or even harm. As both Cobolt and Nickel can be considered semi-noble, Iron reigns supreme as the most base metal. ===== Alloys ===== ==== Dwarven Steel ==== From beginning to end the crafting of [[lore:dwarven steel]] is one of the most closely guarded secrets in the world. Its secrets are known only to a very few dwarven masters who are not permitted to travel except under heavy guard, their movements constantly watched. A full suit of plate armor of dwarven steel would fetch a king's ransom. ==== Dead Iron ==== A very high iron alloy and said to be the truest bane of magicians. Rumors abound that simply knowing how to fashion such a alloy is death. Even those mortals with no ability to touch the Shadow Realms directly do not like to touch it. It is said to carry the chill of the grave. ==== Cold Iron ==== Simply a commoner name for a low [[wp>carbon steel]]. In many ways it can be worked as steel and other alloys {{tag>metal info material}}
