====== Create Magic Items ====== Magic items come in two varieties. The first are Magical Devices, which can be used by anyone as the power to work their magic is placed within the device. The second are Magical Foci, which can only be used by a magician to whom it is attuned. The final category are Artifacts, which are devices which are not limited by a number of charges. ====== Data Block ====== ^ Item ^ Materials ^ Charges ^ Max Spell MR ^ Max Spells ^ | Simple Device | 4 | ML x 4 | 4 | 1 | | Lesser Device | 8 | ML x 8 | 7 | Total MR < 14 | | Greater Device | 16 | ML x 16 | unlimited | Total MR < (21 x ML) | | Simple Artifact | 16 | n/a | 4 | 1 | | Lesser Artifact | 20 | n/a | 7 | Total MR < 14 | | Great Artifact | 28 | n/a | unlimited | Total MR < (21 x ML) | | Simple Focus | 26 | ML x 3 | n/a | n/a | | Lesser Focus | 30 | ML x 7 | n/a | n/a | | Greater Focus | 38 | ML x 13 | n/a | n/a | ====== Steps ====== - All materials must be fully assembled and enchanted to MR0. - The materials are assembled into the item. This can only be accomplished by a Master Craftsman (50%+ PSF). A failure to craft the item has a **100 - (CritDie x 10)%** chance of destroying one of the materials. A Critical Failure will destroy all of the items. - If a crafting a Device the magician empowers the item with the spells it will contain. This takes **7/ML * Spell MR hours** to accomplish. They can spend no more than 10 hours per day on this task. - Magician rolls against their craft and compares it to the Results table below. ====== Results ====== ^ Result ^ CritDie ^ Effects ^ | Success | > 9 | Success plus ML * 2 additional charges | | Success | 8 - 9 | Success with 2 additional charges | | Success | 1 - 7 | Success | | Failure | 4 - 10 | Successful empowerment but only **1/2 of the charges** | | Failure | 2 - 3 | Failed empowerment requires magician to repeat step to empower | | Failure | < 2 | Object destroyed | ====== Recharge ====== Any device that contains charges can be re-empowered simply by doing the final two steps of the item's creation. This involves the magician to have full knowledge of the spell in question (MR0). If a device is ever reduced to 0 charges it is destroyed.
