====== Heule River ======

The **Heule River** for most of its length runs along the accepted border between [[atlas:Krandryia]] and the [[atlas:Kingdom of Dakar]]. Feed from the snow melt in the [[atlas:Iron Mountains]], the river runs fast and cold for its length.

While the river is shallow enough in several sections along its length the cold and fast river makes for a dangerous crossing.


===== Course =====

The Heule River is feed from tributaries originating in the highlands of Krandryia, but its headwaters lie in the Iron Mountains. Deep springs from dozens of streams feed into [[atlas:Lake Barrowcarne]] from which the Huele runs. Out of the Iron Mountains it flows south-southwest along the base of the highlands until it reaches the escarpment at the western edge of the [[atlas:Valley of the Sun]]. It runs along the western edge until it empties into the [[atlas:Caragan Sea]].

The river has three distinct sections: [#North Heule]], [[#Deep Heule]], and the [[#Rapids]].


==== North Heule ====

The North Heule is the most fordable section of the river. The coldest water along the length can be found in this section, but the river is wide and shallow in may places, often reduced to only a foot in depth as it winds its way among the rocky ground. Fishing its exceptional with fish from the deeps of Lake Barrowcarne following the snow melt south to spawn. 


==== Deep Heule ====

Feed by hundreds of steams and smaller rivers form the highlands the Heule River cuts a deeper path through the valleys. Cold and deep the river can only be reliably crossed by bridges and ferries. During the snow melt the banks of the river can overflow swamping the nearby villages and flooding their fields. The hills surrounding the river are rich for agriculture and herding as long as the river is watched. As heavy spring rain can be disastrous.



==== Rapids ====

The deep and wide flow of the river reaches the escarpment that divides the Valley of the Sun from the northern plains of Dakar. The rocky land and multiple cutbacks creates a river that flashes along the bottom of the ridge in a series of heavy rapids. Along this stretch the river divides and combines as it sloshes its way to the Caragan Sea. Hidden among the rapids are deep holes were an entire cart can be sucked under.

Hundreds of small tributaries flow from the highlands into the Heule River.
